AS Saint-Etienne : Banner against AS Saint-Etienne, Aulas calms the game | ASSE News

Immersed in the rivalry, OL supporters are hostile towards ASSE before the derby. Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to calm things down.

OL: Aulas, “no sporting rivalry can justify such remarks”

On an insulting banner deployed in the OL training center, the supporters of the Rhone club did not make a gift to their enemy neighbor, the ASSE. They asked the Gones players “to complete” the Greens “in agony”, during the 124th Rhône-Alpes derby between the two rival clubs, this Friday (9 p.m.) at Groupama Stadium, at the start of the 22nd day of Ligue 1. Aware of the historic rivalry between Olympique Lyonnais and AS Saint-Étienne , Jean Michel Aulas believes that we must remain fair play, regardless of the opponent in front. OL thus condemns the banner placed outside its infrastructure this Wednesday.

In his reaction to the message from Lyon supporters, the president of Les Gones deplored words that can stir up hatred and lead to bad behavior in sports arenas. According to the OL leader, “no sporting rivalry can justify such remarks, even more so when they then take negative shape in our stadiums”. It was in an official press release published on the Rhone club’s Twitter account that Jean-Michel Aulas condemned the attitude of Lyon supporters.

First OL-ASSE derby for Pascal Dupraz

OL (11th) and ASSE (20th) faced each other in the league this season during the first leg. Stéphanois and Lyonnais were neutralized (1-1) at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, on October 3, 2021, during the 9th day of Ligue 1. This time, Claude Puel (60 years old) will not be on the sidelines of AS Saint-Étienne (sacked on December 5), but rather Pascal Dupraz (59), the new coach of the Greens. Moreover, Sainté will not be able to count on the support of his supporters in Décines. They are prohibited from traveling to Lyon.
