“I am voting for the return of Robert Beric, which will not surprise anyone! The Slovenian had deployed the red carpet to Claude Puel by scoring the goal of victory against Lyon (1-0) for the first match of Castres, with a splendid header, in added time, and I did not have liked the way the former manager of the Greens had “rewarded” him, by sending him to Chicago. Since then, we know what happened for ASSE and for Puel, the worst record in the history of the club. Other arguments for a return of the Slovenian: he knows the club, the majority of supporters appreciate him, which is also the case of Loïc Perrin, close to him, and he has already rendered valuable services over a half-season. I am talking about the 2017-18 season, when he scored 7 goals in 15 matches between January and May to participate in the operation to maintain Jean-Louis Gasset. Finally, I note that at the center-forward position, since his departure, no one has won. Neither Abi, nor Modeste, nor Krasso nor Ramirez. Only Khazri has regularly shaken the nets. “If I think it is indeed urgent to bring back experience in the workforce to seek a maintenance with the knife, I am not convinced that the best solution is to recall all the former ASSE available. Already, when we talk about Bakary Sako, whose ultimate experience in Cyprus ended in a fiasco, I ask myself a lot of questions.
Yes, the Greens have no means and can only cunning or hope for a few hits. But where is Robert Béric really? The Slovenian left MLS two months ago. His record in the very weak North American championship? Just 8 goals in 33 appearances this season. Lightweight.
I have no doubt that Robert Béric would sign with both hands for a return to Forez, where he enjoyed himself very much, but I doubt that he would be competitive (or of great contribution) in a short-term six-month assignment. As much as an elderly defender (like Vitorino Hilton) can compensate for his age and lack of rhythm with a flawless reading of the game and a sense of placement, as much for a surface striker – who depends a lot on the number of balls that he can receive from his partners – I find it more difficult to see the added value. We are not talking here of a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored goals for years in the Bundesliga and the Premier League.
