AS Saint-Etienne : Batlles is no longer the trainer of Troyes! | ASSE News

Coach of the Aube team since 2019, Laurent Batlles notably managed to reach Ligue 1 this year by winning the Ligue 2 title last season. In 15th place in Ligue 1 at the break, not much foreshadowed such an epilogue for the former Stéphanois. The club speaks of a mutual agreement in good understanding and a strategic decision to maximize the chances of maintenance. The team evokes many disputes with its leaders who had already failed to push Batlles to go to Montpellier this summer. Laurent Batlles returned to Saint-Étienne to find his family who remained to live here.

The ESTAC press release:

ESTAC and its trainer, Laurent Batlles, decided today to end their collaboration by mutual agreement and in good understanding. At the end of many constructive and benevolent discussions, it was indeed agreed to continue the season by following different trajectories.

With the aim of giving new impetus to the group before entering the return phase, this strong strategic decision aims to preserve all parties and maximize the chances of survival.

Arrived in June 2019 from the AS Saint-Etienne reserve, Laurent Batlles will have discovered the professional world as a coach and will have offered Troyes the Ligue 2 BKT title at the end of the 2020-2021 season. . The entire club salutes his professionalism and investment and wishes him success in the rest of his career. ESTAC will continue to follow its course with kindness.

Erick Mombaerts will take over the leadership of the training sessions and the responsibility of the first team on an interim basis for the next few weeks.

As of Sunday January 2, the day the professional group resumes, training sessions for the first team will take place behind closed doors until further notice.

A new point will be made later on the evolution of the supervision of the professional group.
