The lawn of Geoffroy-Guichard honors the jersey color of theAS Saint-Etienne (Loire). Very green, dense and pleasant to play, it is classified sixth best lawn of Ligue 1 Uber Eats by the Professional Football League (LFP), just in front of Olympique de Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) and far ahead of Olympique Lyonnais.

At the same time as each sporting season, the LFP organizes the “BKT Lawn Championship” which rewards at the end of the French L1 and L2 championships the best pitches in each division.

A multitude of criteria

ASSE has obtained the average score of 18.45. Several criteria are taken into account in this calculation.

On each day of the championship, each pitch is evaluated by the clubs participants, the referee central and the TV director (in Ligue 1 only), indicates the regulations of the LFP. Each one assigns a note to the lawn evaluated on 5 criteria.

The clubs and the central referee assess:

  • the path from the ball to the ground;
  • the flexibility and the hardness ground ;
  • the support quality (for any change of direction, acceleration, stop, race, etc.);
  • the carpet quality vegetal (density, color, homogeneity…);
  • the’global appreciation of the playing area and its surroundings (assistant referee lanes, warm-up areas, layouts, etc.)

For his part, the TV director takes into account:

  • the color (quality of green, homogeneity…);
  • the density the ground (presence of damaged, patched areas, etc.);
  • the drawings mowing (very distinct transverse bands, respectful of the lines);
  • the tackling behavior (stability under the supports, presence of clods);
  • the’global appreciation of the playing area and its surroundings (quality of the tracks, technical areas, etc.)

Each criterion is scored from 1 to 20, established after the matches played.

Paris-Saint-Germain (19.80) dominated debates, followed by Montpellier (19.45) and Angers (18.90).

Saint Etienne (18.45) ranks sixth, behind the Stade de Reims (18.60) and just in front of OM (18.30).

Far behind, Lyon (16.75), OGC Nice (16) and Lille (15,20) escape the last place which goes to Lens (12.40). Obviously, the grass is greener in Saint-Étienne than in most of his Ligue 1 opponents.
