AS Saint-Etienne : Lyon supporters once again banned from derby in Saint-Etienne after a prefectural decree | ASSE News

Seeing a decree from the Loire or Rhône prefecture fall, ten days before each derby between ASSE and OL, has become a sad habit for several seasons. On this account, the famous manita (0-5) inflicted by Lyonnais
led by Nabil Fekir on November 6, 2017, will go down in history in more ways than one. That evening, supporters
Lyon were present at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. Unfortunately, this will not be the case on October 3 (9 p.m.) during the first leg derby.

The Loire prefecture has just issued yet another order on Thursday to ban any movement of Lyon supporters in the Chaudron, from 3 to 6 October. She specifies “that there is a strong rivalry between the groups of supporters from Saint-Etienne and Lyon”. Ah good ? According to her, “serious disturbances to public order have been observed in matches between these two teams.”

The Stéphanois have never set foot in Parc OL

There is no shortage of precedents to support such a decision, starting with the violent clashes between supporters of the two camps, in the city center of Lyon, on the eve of the derby in February 2020 at the Parc OL. The prefecture also cites overflows during the matches of February 5 and November 5, 2017, both played in the Forez.

It must be said that to find any trace of the movement of Saint-Etienne supporters to Lyon, we have to go back to April 28, 2013, obviously at Gerland and not at Parc OL. The recent big hiccups observed in Ligue 1 in Nice, Lens, and to a lesser degree in Angers and Metz on Wednesday, will in no way push the prefectures to consider a next derby in the presence of Lyonnais and Stéphanois.
