In June 2003, France hosted the Confederations Cup. Saint-Etienne is one of the three cities selected with Saint-Denis (Stade de France) and Lyon (Gerland). Geoffroy-Guichard is the scene of three meetings: Turkey-United States (2-1), Brazil-Turkey (2-2) and the match for 3rd place won by the Turks against Colombia (2-1). Minor work on some lodges is carried out before the competition. A month later, on July 22, Johnny Hallyday lit the fire in the Cauldron in front of 38,000 spectators.

In 2007, the Chaudron hosted the Rugby World Cup with three group matches including a decisive Scotland-Italy (18-16). Before the competition, giant screens took place for the first time in the stadium’s history in two of the open angles. The former Greens shop in the inner courtyard of the stadium has been transformed into a lounge, “Club 42”. 2,600m² of photovoltaic panels are also installed on the roof of the Pierre-Faurand stand, producing the equivalent of the electricity consumption of around 10,000 households over a year. Geoffroy-Guichard is greener than ever. On June 10, 2008, the concert of The Police, is, to date, the last one organized at the stadium.
