According to information from West France, the AS Saint-Etienne goalkeeper has decided to play for England. According to the regional daily, “Green recently let Sylvain Ripoll (France Under-21 coach) and his staff know that he wanted to defend the colors of his country of birth: England”. The ASSE-trained goalkeeper was with the Bleuets during the U21 Euro 2021, played in Hungary and Slovenia. He was a substitute in the game against the Netherlands, but has not played a single game during the European company. The No. 40 de Verts is therefore free to choose its selection.
Who is Étienne Green?
Whatever his official decision, Étienne Green will always defend the colors of ASSE. He is under contract with the Stéphanois until June 2024, after the extension of his lease in March 2021. The 21-year-old doorman was born in Colchester (in Great Britain), to an English father and a French mother . He spent 11 years (2009-2020) at the Sainté training center. He signed his first professional contract on June 20, 2020 and played his first match with the pros on April 4, 2021. ASSE’s last bulwark has so far totaled 11 matches in Ligue 1 for as many tenures. He conceded 12 goals and managed 3 clean sheets. The Franco-Englishman takes over from Stéphane Ruffier and Jessy Moulin.
