The Loire club is indeed the one that gives the most chances in the first team to players from its training center, according to a study by the Observatory of the International Center for the Study of Sport CIES published this Monday, May 10, 2021.
ASSE even ranks 4e rank at the level of the five major European championships.
CIES ranked clubs in the 27 UEFA affiliated leagues based on the employment rate of club-trained first-team players. This is the percentage of minutes played by players from the training center. At least those who spent at least 3 years between 15 and 21 years old.
In this game, the first places are occupied by secondary championship clubs, from Eastern Europe in particular, whose players do not necessarily have the level to “export”.
The Slovenian championship, for example, the one that makes its club-trained players play most. Several Ukrainian stables are also represented.

But when it comes down to the five big Western European leagues, Saint-Etienne appears in fourth place, behind three Spaniards, including two Basques known to favor local players and forced to be good trainers.
