Summary and lessons
A derby to pick up, a derby to keep a distance. Pressured by the victories of Paris, Lille in front and Monaco behind, OL, 3th no matter what, had to use the visit to his regional rival to resume his forward march. Despite the absence of many players on each side, the derby was starting strong, very strong. No observation round with four great chances in just four minutes, including three for the Lyonnais who gradually imposed their domination. They were quick to make their very good start to the match thanks to the hero of the first leg, Kadewere. The teammates of Memphis were hungry and did not release the pressure, like that cannonball on the By Sciglio and especially from the ball of Marcelo in the mill fillets. Apart from a fright in the first seconds, the Stéphanois had not existed in this first act.
But they came back with a whole different face. Sharper, more aggressive, the Greens got themselves some opportunities. Not enough to call into question the Lyon domination which sparked a third time through … Marcelo ! This 122nd derby was a one-way street. OL offered themselves a fourth goal and Kadewere a new double. The festival was not yet over. OL took advantage of the last goal of Memphis on a deflected free kick to close a simply historic success after that of 2017 on the same score!
