AS Saint-Étienne believe they have found Wesley Fofana’s replacement. The Greens have set their sights on Greece international Pagianotis Retsos, whose sporting situation at Bayer Leverkusen is not at its best.

ASSE loves doing business with Greek football players this summer! On the start side, Yann M’Vila has joined Olympiakos. In the opposite direction, the managers of the Saint-Etienne club tried to recruit the left side of PAOK Salonika, Dimitrios Giannoulis. A track has fallen into the water but it is not impossible to see another Greek player land in Forez by Monday evening. To replace Leicester’s Wesley Fofana, the Greens have ticked off Pagianotis Retsos (22), a versatile defender who can play both at the hinge and on both sides of the rear.

According to the Greek outlet Onsports, Claude Puel and his management have forwarded a loan offer to Bayer Leverkusen with a buyout option. The media add that the operation has a good chance of succeeding. The Olympiacos-trained player is not part of the plans for the German club he has played in since 2017. He would welcome a move to France. In three years, the five-cap Greece international has made 35 appearances for Bayer. Evidence of his low importance in the first-team ranks, he was loaned out last season to Sheffield United where he only played one game. Saint-Étienne hopes to make this transfer before the end of the transfer window.
