Nearly 140 Ligue 1 players are coming to the end of their contract, at the end of the current season.
A transfer window has barely ended, the next one is already being prepared for Ligue 1 clubs. By the next market window, they will have to decide the fate of players who reach the end of their contract in June 2021. They are 138, more or less depending on the specifics (option of additional years for some), to complete the adventure with their club, at the end of this exercise. As detailed in the leaderboard below, some teams will have more work than others.
OM and PSG face a wave of end of contracts
It is the case of OM and PSG, both of whom have 11 contract ends to deal with by the end of the season. And in the lot, players who count, like Florian Thauvin at Olympique de Marseille, or his Argentinian counterpart, Angel Di Maria, or even Julian Draxler, at Paris Saint-Germain. For them, the sequel is still a complete unknown. Others don’t have that many files to look into. None, for Reims, which has until summer 2022 to look into its expiring contracts.
Few free players this summer 2021 at LOSC and OL
The only French winner in Europe on the first day of the Champions League, LOSC will have only one free player at the end of the year, in the person of Jose Fonte, their veteran captain (36). Different situation at OL. Among the four players making their final year at the team is Memphis Depay. The Dutch forward has expressed his interest in joining FC Barcelona and Ronald Koeman, whom he knows from playing under him for the Netherlands. While his departure seems inevitable, the Gones will certainly prefer to let go this winter, rather than see him go free in 2021.
