Stéphane Ruffier (34) is heading more than ever towards a white season in Saint-Etienne. In open conflict with the club and his coach Claude Puel, the goalkeeper will probably not play for a minute during the 2020-2021 fiscal year. In an interview with L’Equipe, Puel confirmed that he would not call the French international (3 caps) in the event of injury or suspension of new number 1, Jessy Moulin.
“No, he replied. It was decided to rely on three goalkeepers (Jessy Moulin, Stefan Bajic and Etienne Green, editor’s note), who have made enormous progress. There you are.”
“Decisions have been made and I’m sticking to them”
Ruffier was laid off last July after a delay in training that the player disputes. He had been reinstated in the group before leaving, according to his will not to be demoted as a backing for Jessy Moulin. According to Claude Puel, all attempts at an arrangement between the two parties fell through.
“We tried, with him, he explains. There were systematically disqualifications.” Will he replay the former Monegasque goalkeeper? “Decisions have been made and I stand by them”, concludes the manager of the Greens. Under contract until 2021, Ruffier is therefore heading for a last year in the Forez, far from the land.
