The ASSE recruited Yvann Mason at USL Dunkirk, then in National, on January 31, 2020. After half a season at AS Saint-Étienne, he went behind the scenes of his transfer.

ASSE: Yvann Maçon jumped at the Saint-Etienne opportunity!

Yvann Maçon made a jump from USL Dunkirk to ASSE at the very end of last winter’s transfer window. TheAS Saint-Étienne offered him his first professional contract, lasting three seasons. The versatile defender has recounted the contours of his transfer, in an exclusive interview with Goal Football Club. He admits that his start to the 2019-2020 season with USL Dunkerque was decisive. “We had a great first part of the season and that’s when AS Saint-Étienne contacted me,” revealed the winter rookie from Saint-Etienne. Indeed, Yvan Maçon learned of the interest of ASSE from his agent during the Christmas holidays. “He told me that Saint-Étienne was supervising me. And in January it accelerated, ”he told the source. For a National player, “that was pretty incredible.” On the back of his performances for the northerner club (eventually promoted to Ligue 2), the right-back was hoping to catch the eye of a club, but not immediately. “I told myself that [ses performances, ndlr] might not go unnoticed, and that I might be rewarded, but I didn’t think it was going to come so quickly, ”explained Yvan Maçon. In any case, the latter did not hesitate for a single moment, as soon as ASSE went on the offensive. “An opportunity like this should not be missed,” he said.

Yvann Maçon enjoys the trust of Claude Puel

It should be noted that the 22-year-old was unable to express himself at ASSE, as he would have liked, due to the coronavirus health crisis. He played two Ligue 1 games before the 2019-20 season cut-off in March. During the resumption in July, the native of Guadeloupe held the final of the Coupe de France against PSG (0-1). He played 34 minutes, before giving way to Harold Moukoudi, following the expulsion of Loïc Perrin. Having the confidence of Claude Puel, he was lined up from the start against FC Lorient (2-0) on Matchday 1 of Ligue 1. Yvann Maçon has therefore 4 games for as many starts in the Greens jersey.
