AS Saint-Etienne : Claude Puel’s summer priority unveiled | ASSE News

Claude Puel foresees many changes for the new season. According to Jérôme Alonzo, the ASSE manager expects more support in attack.

Claude Puel looking for a real goalscorer

The ASSE transfer window promises to be choppy in the direction of the starts. Used to working with a small staff, Claude Puel intends to reduce its professional group for the coming season. Thus, the coach of AS Saint-Étienne does not count on certain players, including managers from the Saint-Etienne locker room. Stéphane Ruffier, Yann M’Vila, Wahbi Khazri and Ryad Boudebouz are among others on the list of his unwanted people. Although he has already found a replacement for Ruffier in the person of Jessy Moulin, the Greens coach needs a forward above all. Something that has just confirmed Jerome Alonzo. “In Saint-Étienne, the Arlesienne for several years, he’s number 9,” the former Stéphanois goalkeeper told Dauphiné Liberated.

Keys to find the podium

For Jérôme Alonzo, the Greens “could even have found the podium” if they had a quality scorer. Recruiting for this position is therefore Claude Puel’s priority task. Besides that, he believes that Stéphane Ruffier’s replacement will also have his score to play to lead ASSE to the top. “The two cornerstones are how Moulin will manage his starting status and if Puel will find a striker who will score 13 or 14 goals. It will be played at both ends of the field! Alonzo said.

Vincent Aboukakar to revive ASSE?

In recent days, the name of Vincent Aboubakar is associated with Saint-Étienne. The Cameroonian has only one year of contract left (63 caps / 20 goals) with FC Porto. Failing to see him go free in 2021, the Portuguese champion should sell his center forward this summer. Aboubakar could therefore revive in Ligue 1 after a season marred by an injury. He knows the championship well, having played in Valenciennes and FC Lorient, where he exploded. According to the specialized site Transfermarkt, 5 million euros would be enough to secure the services of the native of Yaoundé.
