The furniture brand, headed by Alexis Mulliez, has been placed in receivership. Of the 26 stores it owns in France, the latter only plans to keep 9. The Villars store is expected to close or be taken over by another brand.

In insolvency, the company placed in receivership by the Marseille commercial court on May 13, had declared a liability of 12 million euros due, with a turnover of 257 million euros for 62 million euros. euros of net loss. The management had explained these poor results by the movement of “yellow vests”, then by the strikes linked to the pension reform and finally by the health crisis linked to Covid-19 which had “put a stop to the efforts undertaken”.

The Villars store would not be preserved. It employs 70 people. The mayor of Saint-Etienne and president of Saint-Etienne Métropole, Gaël Perdriau, is indignant at this decision on his social networks. For the elected representative from the Loire region, the boss of the Auchan group is taking advantage of a decree, published on May 20, which “allows the owner of a business to take it over after filing for bankruptcy [avec] the risk that the shareholders of a company will be tempted, in the event of long-standing difficulties, to file for bankruptcy. Then, to take advantage of this new decree to buy back their box. In the meantime, they will have cleared their debts with suppliers or the state and social agencies … ”
