AS Saint-Etienne : Téléfoot vs Canal +, the distribution of matches gives a winner | ASSE News

When the new school year begins, the Téléfoot channel of Mediapro and Canal + will be fighting a great battle to broadcast the best matches in Ligue 1, whether they are those of PSG, OL or OM.

Last season, the crypto channel had the top three picks on each league day, with beIN Sports picking up the remaining seven games. If C + often broadcast matches in Paris, Lyon and Marseille, this will no longer be the case from August 21. Because the arrival of Mediapro will be a game changer. From 2020 to 2024, the first four choices of each day will be divided between C + and Téléfoot. If the day of L1 includes a “Top 10” match of the season, Mediapro will have Choice 1 for Sunday evening and Choice 2 for Friday evening. Ten times in the season, C + will therefore retrieve Choice 3 and 4 to fill its two boxes for Saturday evening and Sunday 5 p.m. In this configuration, Choice 3 will not however be an exclusivity for Canal, since Téléfoot will have the right to co-broadcast one day out of four, as on the first day of L1 at the start of the school year. This will allow Jaume Roures’ new media to broadcast 85% of L1, with for example the multiplexes of J19, J37 and J38. Besides this famous “Top 10”, Canal + will have Choices 1 and 4 during the 28 other days, Téléfoot having the exclusivity of all the other meetings.

80 of 108 PSG, OL and OM matches on Téléfoot

More specifically, Téléfoot will broadcast the 10 most beautiful posters of L1 exclusively: the round trip of PSG-OM, OL-OM, OL-ASSE and PSG-OL, plus the outward journey of OM-ASSE and LOSC -PSG. During 30 days, including 28 exclusively, C + will be able to broadcast either PSG or OM. But not OL? According to the Mediasportif site, the Lyon season could be fully broadcast on Téléfoot: “The Rhone club should be the main absent from the grids of the encrypted channel this season, because too important to be frequently accessible via choice 4”. If Canal will have other assets with Lens, Saint-Étienne or Lille, Mediapro will offer 80 of the 108 games of the PLM trio next season. One more argument in favor of Téléfoot, which will therefore broadcast most of the major L1 matches, but also all Champions League and Europa League matches, for 25.90 euros per month.
