ASSE Wesley Fofana transfer

ASSE is incubating its Wesley Fofana nugget, but it will be hard to hold him back for much longer.

TheASSE Has he already found William Saliba’s replacement? The latter, a promising young defender (19) trained at the club, flew to London this summer to join Arsenal. The Greens have recovered a substantial sum (around 30M €). This 2019-20 season, it seems that the leaders of Saint-Etienne have found the succession in the person of Wesley fofana, recently extended.

Wesley Fofana, a meteoric rise in ASSE

A native of Marseille, Wesley Fofana (20) landed in Saint-Étienne in 2015. After climbing the ranks in the youth categories, the central defender signed his first professional contract, in May 2018. A year later, he discovered Ligue 1, in a match against OGC Nice (3-0 victory). It is with the arrival of Claudel Puel on the Stéphanois bench in October 2019 that Fofana will find a place in the squad. From the coach’s first meeting, during the derby (1-0), the latter summons the player and then, the match after, install him in the eleven. Since then, number 3 has taken part in 14 Ligue 1 matches, with a first goal against Les Aiglons on December 4, 2019 (4-1). TheFootball observatory, aware of this rise, estimates the market value of the player between 15 and 20 M € when Transfermarkt is harsher on it, it is given at 5 million euros.

The player was extended before the transfer window

That’s maybe for a player extended for two years last April and who has four years of contract to be honored with the Greens, until 2024. To be honored, or compensated for the club that wishes to recruit him. And there are, about him, the clubs of RB Leipzig or AC Milan have been mentioned. Since the extension of the lease, Fofana has exceeded half a million euros gross salary in Sainté. Offers have reportedly been made about it, but ASSE is reportedly not selling for less than 30 million euros. Or the equivalent of a William Saliba.
