AS Saint-Etienne : Yves Verrière, ex-journalist of Progress, tells Robert Herbin | ASSE News

He was supposed to be present during the program devoted to Robert Herbin on the Facebook page of France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire, but the technique wanted otherwise. Yves Verrière, freshly retired from the newspaper La Tribune – Le Progrès, has known “Le Sphinx” well. On behalf of the regional daily but also when he was editor of the club newspaper in the 80s.

First of all, Yves was like many: he discovered Robert Herbin through the great team of the Greens when he was a player then a coach.

When Herbin returned in 1987, Yves was hired by ASSE as editor of the club’s newspaper. The first meeting is not very verbal and cold. He remembers a man who did not give his confidence easily, who always gauged his interlocutors, and who also protected himself, in a way.

But over the years Yves got to know his Sphinx. He even spent evenings playing cards, the opportunity to discover another side of the character. A man who had other interests such as classical music or his dogs.

This link persisted when Yves Verrière moved to Progrés. They met regularly for Robert Herbin’s weekly chronicles to talk about the Greens and their matches. But the journalist also had the privilege of carrying out a long interview with “Roby” for his 80th birthday.
