Victor Osimhen LOSC

Like Victor Osimhen (21), young people are an integral part of the LOSC project.

Youth bonus. For some football clubs, it is a leitmotif or a strategic guideline, while others argue for the experience. How much do Ligue 1 clubs trust novices of professionalism ? The Football Observatory, in its weekly letter, raises the question for the first divisions of 93 different championships, including Ligue 1, in France.

LOSC trusts young people in Ligue 1 the most

And it’s at LOSC, that young people play the most, under the orders of Christophe Galtier. This is quite logical, since the club’s business model is precisely centered on the hatching of emerging talents, to later benefit from a capital gain on the transfer. This therefore requires the support of a young base. In Lille, in the 2019 season and the months played in the 2019-20 fiscal year, 32.1% of the players on the green rectangle were under 22 years of age. About a third of the workforce is the highest ratio in the championship.

OGCN and ASSE follow on the podium

In front of OGC Nice, 30.8% and ASSE, 24.6%. Sportingly, we note that there is frankly no truth at this level, since the LOSC has played the top of the table, this season, Nice the soft belly to the European places and Saint-Etienne has a little scares, in the struggle for maintenance.

Ligue 1 trusts U21 more than European neighbors

Conversely, it is in Monaco (8.3%), Angers (5.4%) and especially Amiens that young people have the fewest opportunities to express themselves. At club Picard, the share given by the Football Observatory is 0.4%. Ligue 1 has much more confidence in its U21s (at 15%) than the English Premier League (8.5%), the German Bundesliga (9.8%), the Spanish Liga (7%) and the Italian Serie A, at 7.7%.
