Roland Romeyer, the president of the Saint-Etienne board, does not wish to play the final of the Coupe de France against PSG behind closed doors.
“The Coupe de France is the most beautiful of the Cups, with a communion of supporters. That’s football. I was very happy to play it because Saint-Etienne had a special season this year. Having managed to qualify in front of Rennes (2-1, March 5) for our first final of the Coupe de France since 1982, against PSG which is more (*), allowed us to save the season, in quotes. But here, we are told to play in an empty stadium. There would be no more flavor ”, said Roland Romeyer in The Team.
Before continuing: “We knew that, against Nantes in the Championship, this season (0-2, January 12). And it was catastrophic. In camera is a practice match. There, it is not a question of ethics but of health emergency. Who would have thought, at the beginning of January, when we laughed at the Chinese and their little flu, that we would suffer a total cessation of life in Europe and in the world? And we are told about this final in an empty Stade de France. I can’t imagine for a minute that we’re playing it without our supporters. It’s not going to happen to ours. Saint-Etienne, without its supporters, is no longer Saint-Etienne. For me it’s not possible to play it without them. ”
