AS Saint-Etienne : After failure at CNOSF, AS Saint-Étienne takes legal action to hope to get into D1 | ASSE News

Friday, the decision made by the CNOSF proved unfavorable to ASSE. The club still hopes to go up to D1, despite the attribution of the ascent to Le Havre in group B. After the CNOSF, the club from Stéphane has decided to go to administrative justice.

AS Saint-Étienne remains in D2 for the moment, following an unsuccessful process with the CNOSF. The Greens had seized the authorities of the Olympic movement to contest the decision of the FFF to raise Le Havre in D1, and to maintain ASSE in D2.

An unfinished struggle for the rise

The two teams have been neck and neck since the start of the season, but on March 13, when the championships stopped, it was Le Havre who was provisional leader with 3 points ahead. Saint-Étienne then counts a late match (at Yzeure) canceled on 1er March due to bad weather. The match was rescheduled for March 22, but was never played.

In the event of a victory at Yzeure, ASSE would then have been first in the ranking on equal points with Le Havre (and a particular favorable goal-average). The Greens would then have been promoted to D1 instead of the HAC. A conditional scenario which nevertheless encourages the club of Forez to continue the battle on the administrative field.

The first stage was not conclusive since the CNOSF issued a conciliation proposal favorable to the FFF, encouraging the quarantine of clubs concerned by appeals, including ASSE, to ” stick to the decision of the FFF executive committee », With the guidelines set on April 16 by the federation.

Close the door to remedies

For Jérôme Bonnet, the Vertes’ coach, the CNOSF’s decision is motivated by the desire to avoid ” many other possible remedies ” These challenges follow the exceptional decisions made by the FFF with the final cessation of the championships this season, in order to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic. The Stéphane coach who also believes that Les Havraises ” deserve just as much to go up in D1

Do not open the breach, and therefore a logic of non-interference on the part of the CNOSF in the choices of federations faced with the coronavirus. While several male teams are initiating proceedings before the Council of State, ASSE has seized the Clermont-Ferrand administrative court. This is to challenge the municipal decree which led to the cancellation of the match of the 16e day between Yzeure and Saint-Etienne.

An approach that remains highly uncertain while the FFF has validated the climbs concerning the D2, with the FF Issy in group A and therefore Le Havre in group B. Since the D1, FC Metz and Olympique de Marseille descend and will therefore find the D2 next season.

With regard to accessions in D2, three of the four rising teams have been designated, namely RC Strasbourg in Grand Est, FCE Mérignac Arlac in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, FF Nîmes in Occitanie. It remains to know the team designated in the Auvergne Rhones-Alpes League, choices that could also give rise to new remedies.
