Former ASSE player Willy Sagnol is not soft on right back Sergi Palencia, whom he believes does not have the qualities to be a defender.
A native of Saint-Etienne, trained with the Greens, where he played as professionals in 1996/97 before spinning at AS Monaco then at Bayern Munich, Willy Sagnol is a keen observer of Saint-Etienne news. And as in addition he briefly led the Girondins de Bordeaux, he knows the right side Sergi Palencia rather well.

The 23-year-old Catalan, who arrived in Forez last summer to replace Mathieu Debuchy in the long term, is only a third or even a fourth choice in the mind of Claude Puel. Nothing illogical to that, according to Sagnol, who explained on RMC that Palencia had in fact none of the qualities required to play the position of lateral!
