Zapping Goal! Football club ASSE: Laurent Hess’ edit on Mathieu Debuchy
After finding a solution until the end of the season for TV rights, Vincent Labrune tackled the second biggest problem in French football: its abysmal deficit. Already in the negative in normal times, Ligue 1 has plunged dangerously at the financial level because of the Mediapro crisis and the closed doors imposed for a year by the Covid-19 pandemic. Via a press release, the president of the LFP announced a global deficit exceeding one billion euros and called for emergency aid from the State.
“Build an emergency support plan”
“In terms of overall revenue, the landing is at € 759.1 million instead of the € 1,307.1 million budgeted by the clubs for the 2020/2021 financial year. These losses in audiovisual revenues confirm and worsen the forecasts of the president of the DNCG, Jean-Marc Mickeler, who predicted in December 2020 “a loss of the order of 800M € for French football.” To date, these losses already amount to more than 1 billion euros (excluding transfer window impact) if we add the consequences of the matches behind closed doors. “
“Consequently, the LFP requests an emergency meeting with the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Recovery, and the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports to receive the leaders of the LFP and a delegation of clubs to build an emergency support plan. “
