AS Saint-Etienne : Willy Sagnol very worried about the future of the two clubs | ASSE News

Zapping Goal! soccer club AS Saint-Etienne: The question of the week

Trained at AS Saint-Etienne (1990-97), Willy Sagnol returned there very briefly as manager a few years ago (January-May 2010). There was also talk of him being the coach if one of the takeover projects went through the process. The former right-back also led the Girondins de Bordeaux (2014-16). Seeing his two former clubs occupy the last two places in the Ligue 1 standings does not leave him indifferent. In an interview with L’Equipe, he regretted the lack of investment from the leaders and expressed his concerns for the future.

“They are on a very bad dynamic. Between sale and resale, the waltz of coaches, players and presidents, Bordeaux has changed a lot. As for Saint-Étienne, they are still trying. But they lack individual quality. For to do what is necessary in the winter transfer window, you have to have a little financial latitude, and there, obviously, there is none. That also raises the question of the aftermath. Saving your skin in L1, OK, but then what do we do? It’s soft focus and it makes you feel like you’re tinkering. It all makes me skeptical and worried.”

Sagnol worried about ASSE and the Girondins

Former defender of the Greens and coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux, Willy Sagnol regrets seeing these two historic formations of the French championship in the bottom of the rankings. And he fears that their fall is not over.
