AS Saint-Etienne : ASSE will go to Périgord | ASSE News

It will be FC Bergerac-Périgord. The Greens will meet a National 2 club again, in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France de Football. The draw took place on Tuesday 4 January. First in its pool, the Périgord club shows its ambitions, since it successively eliminated Metz (L2) and Créteil (N1) in the previous rounds.

FC Bergerac-Perigord is one of the two “little thumbs” of the competition this year. The National 2 is the equivalent of the fourth football division. But in the Coupe de France, it is an envied status that precisely shines the cameras on the team and the club. It is also an additional motivating factor.

After two victories on the wire against the resident of Ligue 2 Metz (5 shots on goal to 4) then one of the heavyweights of National 1, Créteil, on the same score, the Périgourdins therefore find an additional resource to welcome ASSE.

Damien Fachan the captain of Bergerac entrusted him last night to our colleague L’Equipe “Frankly this draw was part of our hopes. Take a big, a poster like this… Saint-Etienne speaks to everyone, it’s a myth, a monument of French football. This draw is an honor. It’s great. We watched it together and it was nice because Antoine Letiévant and Samir Bakir are from there. It’s too beautiful, it’s going to be special for them but also for us.”

For the Greens, this draw is also advantageous. After eliminating Jura-Sud, another National 2 club, ASSE is offered another “sparing-partner” to regain its health in the Coupe de France. And thus hope to find colors in Ligue 1. “These matches are all trap”, however, we say on the side of the Forézien club. “To last in the Coupe de France, you have to respect the competition and the opponent”.

However, the match could be played off the field. The match against Jura-Sud was marred by incidents in the stands, caused by ASSE supporters. Jets of smoke and use of agricultural bomb, which the disciplinary committee of the French Football Federation must sanction in the coming days. But for the time being, ASSE is awaiting a request for explanations from the FFF on these incidents for this procedure to begin. The match is scheduled between January 28 and 31.
