Because of the pandemic, football matches have been contested for a year in empty stadiums. In Saint-Etienne, the club found an original way to keep a link with the supporters. #IlsOntLaSolution

When Loïc Perrin, the former captain and emblematic player of AS Saint-Etienne (2003-2020), takes news from you on the phone, there is something to smile about. It is the surprise that several supporters had among the 12,500 subscribers of the Forez football club.

While for a year, fans have been deprived of a stadium because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Saint-Etienne club has found an original way to reconnect with its most loyal supporters. Players and club members regularly call subscribers to hear from them and cheer them up. “They are very happy that we hear from them again. They really appreciate it and in addition the message from a player makes them happy. It shows a lot of closeness”, says Anaïs Durand, head of the ticketing service at ASSE.

For the club, this operation is also a way to calm the scolding of certain groups of supporters who express their anger on social networks because of the poor results of the Stéphane team, currently 15th in Ligue 1. “Your silence is the confession of your guilt”, affirmed a banner placed in front of the stadium of the Greens. Since then, players have picked up the phone.
