In his latest book “Behind the Green Door”, Bernard Lions tells many anecdotes behind the scenes at ASSE. Revealing pieces of conversations between the main players of the club, he notably returned to the delicate appointment, to the post of general manager, of Xavier Thuilot. An arrival imposed by Claude Puel a little over a year ago and that Roland Romeyer never wanted … Until caused his departure at the beginning of the year.

We learn in particular that the Chairman of the Management Board has put Bernard Caïazzo at odds with his promise to appoint Samuel Rustem (director of sports activities) in this role of CEO, replacing Frédéric Paquet. A Caïazzo who had himself validated Claude Puel’s requirement a little earlier.

Thuilot witnessed, dumbfounded, a scramble on his contract

“Romeyer is screaming conspiracy. But he doesn’t budge, he wants Puel. He therefore agrees to meet Thuilot but he concretes his contract. Thuilot will have to report to him personally before making any decision. He will not be able to commit an amount greater than € 50,000, nor hire. His monthly salary remains capped at € 15,000 gross, ”writes Bernard Lions.

We also learn that Roland Romeyer refused to sign Thuilot’s CDI in front of the latter’s dumbfounded eyes: “I’m not the one hiring him,” plague Romeyer. “You take your responsibilities,” Caiazzo says. “You betrayed me, thunder Romeyer. I’m not signing this contract! »(…) Thuilot demands that the two partners sign. Caïazzo initials the contract with his first and last name and adds an “R”. Romeyer ended up signing under the embarrassed gaze of Master Martin ”, we can read in remarks transcribed by the excellent site Poteaux-Carrés.
