Since the departures of Wesley Fofana and William Saliba from the ASSE defense, the club have started a terrible losing streak. As Saint-Étienne have lost their last 6 games and remain in 7 games without a win. These results justify the Greens’ current 15th place in the Ligue 1 standings. To make a rapid comeback, Claude Puel will have to recruit in the transfer window next January. Defense will obviously be the priority of the ASSE transfer window this winter. To do so, it is a former club player who could make his comeback.
Indeed, William Saliba is far from leaving ASSE transfer window. Thus, his return to the eleven of the Gunners would be facilitated from next season. But small problem, the English clubs do not jostle to recruit him. The player’s rare touches in England would be with Divisions 2 formations, unthinkable for the person concerned. William Saliba would much rather return to ASSE in the January transfer window than go burying himself in the Championship.
Claude Puel should therefore be smiling again. The Greens will be in a strong position to negotiate the return on loan of their former player bought 30 million euros by Arsenal a year ago, a scenario confirmed by The Athletic.
