William Saliba (19) is not expected to leave Arsenal in the very near future. If the transfer window has been closed for a week in Europe, Premier League clubs can further refine their squad by buying or selling players in the lower categories. In recent days, the name of the French defender was frequently cited on the side of Brentford (Championship, English D2).
Arteta is counting on him … but not in the Europa League
But according to The Athletic, the loan should ultimately not be made. Mikel Arteta wants to integrate the former Saint-Etienne player in the rotation despite a big competition in defense. Recruited in 2019 by the Gunners, Saliba was loaned to Saint-Etienne last season. He almost returned to the Greens at the end of the transfer window but the negotiations failed due to administrative problems in England, regretted ASSE.
A few days earlier, Rennes had also relaunched the track. First rejected at the beginning of the summer, the Bretons had learned that an opening was possible at the end of the transfer window. They finally signed Daniele Rugani (Juventus) on loan.
William Saliba will stay at Arsenal at least until the next transfer window in January. By then, he must hope to have playing time in the Premier League or the League Cup. Last week, he was not included on the list of eligible players to play in the Europa League.
