Before each match at Olympique de Marseille, we meet an opposing supporter. This interview aims to get an internal perspective on the next opponent: ASSE. It is also an opportunity to discuss different themes. Olympian people welcome Cédric, 38, from Saint-Étienne, aka @ASSEFrenchSup on Twitter.

When did you get your passion for ASSE?

I have been a faithful supporter of Saint-Étienne since my childhood.

What are your fondest memories with this club?

All the derbies won against Lyon already (laughs), and the victory of the Coupe de la Ligue in 2013. The parade that followed of players in the city was sublime and unforgettable.

Your worst memory during an ASSE-OM? The best ?

Sunday April 16, 2017 … OM won 4-0. Horrible. Gomis put in a masterful goal. The beautiful memory? In February 2016, return match. We almost won. Finally, in the dying minutes Batshuayi put a header in. We were so close to winning, we had a great match!

ASSE hasn’t won at Vél for over 40 years, do you think this time will be the right one?

Everything is possible. Of course I believe it!

What do you think of the rivalry between Saint-Étienne and OM?

Overall very good. It’s healthy, although there has been tension in some years.

ASSE has had a complicated 2019-20 season. Now, looking back, what do you take from this experience?

We must quickly forget this season. Apart from the Coupe de France, everything is to be thrown away. Our offense was weak and our defense was not always top notch. We need to focus on the coming season.

What were the keys to the success of your victories in the first two days this season?

There is finally confidence in young people! This is far from always being the case! There is also a good atmosphere, the confidence instilled in the group. And finally a good coach who does the right thing!

What should OM watch out for?

Our offensive players, our attacks more generally. We were efficient when others least expected it. And then Jessy Moulin, who is a very good goalkeeper in our championship, is very strong on his line!

Your prediction for the match?

Come on, we’re going on 2-1 for the Greens! Good game !
