In Ligue 1, clubs have an average of 36.4% of expatriate players this 2019-20 season.

The PSG is a purveyor of talents… among others. The demographic atlas of the International Center for the Study of Sport (CIES) shows, in Ligue 1, the capital’s club is – by far – the one that the most expatriate players. 76.3% according to the figure given by the Football Observatory in Switzerland. On the basis of “% of minutes played by a footballer, in a different association from that where he was trained”, writes CIES to clarify the method.

PSG has the most L1 expatriates ahead of Monaco and LOSC

In the French Elite Championship, there are five clubs which are above the 50% threshold. And Olympique Lyonnais, the French benchmark for training, which is further behind here than Paris, AS Monaco, LOSC, Dijon and Girondins de Bordeaux. Paris Saint-Germain has the most, at the other extreme the Stade Brestois ratio is 5%; the only club of twenty below 10%.

OM are average, ASSE and Stade Rennais are below

On average, Ligue 1 clubs have 36.4% of expatriate players, as of March 2020. This is the equivalent of OM ratio, close to 35% according to the study. Stade Rennais or ASSE, for the two biggest budgets in the championship have much lower ratios. If the excellence is not the same in training, it is first of all different strategies between clubs.
