AS Saint-Etienne : OL (Olympique lyonnais football) | The Lyonnais continue by pocketing the derby | ASSE News

The big week of OL, started by a prestigious success against Juventus in the knockout stages of the Champions League, continued in the 120th derby against ASSE. The Lyonnais took their revenge of the first leg by winning (2-0) after an intense match. If they outrageously dominated the first period with almost 80% of possession and 397 successful passes against 111, the Stéphanois reacted in the second, rebalancing the game and even creating two or three great chances.

But throughout the match, the Lyon victory is indisputable. More determined, the Lyonnais, with an active and inspired Tousart – Guimaraes – Aouar environment, have long drawn almost all the balloons.

Admittedly Diony, served by Debuchy (10th) should have taken better advantage of a good situation at the entrance to the surface, to find at least the frame, especially since it had been the only opportunity for his team, but the game had already started to clearly tilt in favor of OL.

Dembélé offers a double

After several more and more impactful approaches by Traoré, Terrier, Tousart or Aouar, it was on a set kick, a free kick obtained and struck by Terrier at the corner of the Stéphane area, that OL would open the score. Dembélé was ahead of all the opposing defenders to place an unstoppable header (27th).

The Greens had a duty to exist differently from the start if they wanted to avoid sinking a little deeper into the rankings. They almost were rewarded twice in the first quarter of an hour on two strikes from Diony and Bouanga, superbly diverted by Lopes. But OL was going to give a serious boost. The team of Rudi Garcia would have taken off if in a quarter of an hour, they had not been denied two goals (Tousart 64th, Toko Ekambi 80th) and a penalty (Dembélé), after analysis of the VAR on two of three rather contentious situations.

Punctuated, this second period therefore let the suspense continue until the end of the match, Toko Ekambi responding with a beautiful shot repelled by Moulin (88th) to a big opportunity from Kolodziecjzak (87th), repulsed in disaster by Marçal. But the last word was for Dembélé, signing the double of a Panenka on a penalty obtained by Toko Ekambi, at the end of the additional time.
